Introduction
Stockeld Park, celebrated for its vibrant outdoor attractions, sought to enhance its offerings with an innovative indoor playscape named “The Hive.” The aim was to create a dynamic, rope-based play environment that stimulates the imagination of children while promoting physical activity and social interaction. Tayplay, a leader in designing and manufacturing rope structures, was chosen to realize this vision in collaboration with UDYork and Steelline.
Project Objectives
1. Innovative Design: Develop a unique and engaging indoor rope playscape.
2. Safety: Ensure the highest safety standards in design and construction.
3. Durability: Use materials that withstand extensive use and maintain integrity over time.
4. Collaboration: Work seamlessly with UDYork and Steelline to make the dream a reality.
Collaboration with HM Foot, UDYork and Steelline:
1. HM Foot: Playscape Designer
2. Unconvential Design York: Provided essential design insights and timber expertise to ensure the playscape’s integration into the indoor space.
3. Steelline: Steelwork and structural integrity.
Design Features: The Hive was designed to offer various elements including:
1. Rope Bridges and Nets: Designed to challenge children’s balance and coordination.
2. Climbing Structures: Different configurations to cater to various skill levels and encourage physical activity.
3. Interactive Zones: Areas designed for group play and social interaction, fostering teamwork and communication among children.
Materials: Tayplay utilized high-quality, durable ropes and connectors to ensure longevity and safety. All materials were selected based on their ability to withstand heavy use and maintain structural integrity over time.
Manufacturing: The manufacturing process involved meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that each component met stringent safety and quality standards. Tayplay’s team of skilled craftsmen and engineers worked diligently to fabricate the rope structures.
Coordination: Tayplay worked closely with UDYork and Steelline during the installation phase to ensure seamless integration of all elements. This involved detailed planning and coordination to minimize disruption and ensure timely completion.
Safety Checks: Comprehensive safety checks were conducted throughout the production process, with final quality checks to ensure the rope nets matched the 3D CAD and production Drawings.
Visitor Experience: The £3.5m Hive has become a standout attraction at Stockeld Park, drawing visitors with its innovative design and engaging play elements. It offers a safe, exciting environment for children to explore and enjoy.
